Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 19, 2026
Moments Writer ("Moments Writer," "we," "us," or "our") is a service of funeralOne, LLC, 407 East Fort Street, Suite 300, Detroit, MI 48226, United States. Moments Writer helps funeral homes write obituaries and share them with the families they serve.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Moments Writer websites and applications, including momentswriter.ai and app.momentswriter.com (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
Information we collect
Account information. When a funeral home professional creates an account, we collect a name, email address, workspace details (such as the funeral home's name, logo, and branding), and, optionally, a mobile phone number for notifications. Authentication is provided by our sign-in service provider.
Information your funeral home provides about you. If you are a family member or friend invited to collaborate on an obituary, the funeral home serving your family provides us your name, email address, and, optionally, your mobile phone number so we can send you an invitation. Funeral home staff confirm, at the time they enter a phone number, that you expect to be contacted.
Obituary and memorial content. The Service stores the content created and shared through it: obituary drafts, edits, suggestions, approvals, personal notes, photos and other media, and related details. This content may include information about the person being remembered — including a deceased person — and about family members.
Usage and device information. We automatically collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and diagnostic events. We use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, security, preferences, product analytics, and error monitoring.
How we use information
We use information to:
- provide and operate the Service, including creating, editing, and sharing obituaries;
- deliver invitations and collaboration features, including secure invitation links;
- send transactional notifications by email, text message (SMS), and in-app message — for example, an invitation to contribute to an obituary, or an alert to funeral home staff that an obituary's status changed;
- provide customer support and respond to requests;
- protect the security and integrity of the Service and prevent misuse;
- improve the Service, using aggregated or de-identified usage information; and
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use obituary or memorial content to serve advertising.
Text messages (SMS)
SMS notifications are transactional only — invitations to contribute to an obituary and account activity alerts. Message frequency varies with account activity; typical recipients receive only a few messages per funeral service. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, or get assistance by replying HELP. Text messages are not sent between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the recipient's local time zone.
Mobile information and SMS consent
Phone numbers collected for SMS purposes, together with text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent, will not be shared with or sold to third parties, affiliates, or business partners for marketing or promotional purposes. This information is used solely to deliver the transactional messages described above.
How we share information
We share personal information only:
- With your funeral home workspace. Content and contact details entered in a funeral home's workspace are visible to authorized members of that workspace, and obituary content is shared with the family members the funeral home invites.
- With service providers that help us operate the Service — hosting and infrastructure, authentication, email delivery, SMS delivery, notification orchestration, product analytics, and error monitoring. Service providers may process personal information only to perform services for us.
- For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, funeralOne, or others.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Privacy Policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Information about deceased persons
Obituary content necessarily includes information about people who have died. We handle this content with care, as directed by the funeral home and family members using the Service. Requests concerning a deceased person's information should be directed to the funeral home serving the family, or to us using the contact information below.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Funeral homes control the retention of content within their workspace. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
Your choices and rights
- Email: transactional emails are required to operate the Service; where a message is not required, you may unsubscribe using the link in the message.
- SMS: reply STOP to any text message to opt out permanently.
- Access, correction, and deletion: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws, and we will honor them as required.
- Cookies: you can control cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work without essential cookies.
Children
The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Obituary content about minors may be included only by the adults and funeral homes using the Service.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new effective date, and, for material changes, provide additional notice within the Service.
